What Is Sedation Dentistry?Grandon Village Dental Office

Sedation dentistry is the use of medication to help calm a patient prior to and during a dental procedure or checkup by eliminating discomfort during the procedure. Many people find sedation to be a great option when undergoing even routine dental work. When paired with the trusted, caring staff at Grandon Villiage Dental, sedation dentistry can make dental visits a breeze.

Our Methods of Sedation

Sedation is a good choice for you if you just need a little help to relax or if you would rather not remember the procedure altogether. A common misconception, though, is that sedation renders the patient unconscious, which is not often the case. The sedation options offered by your San Marcos dentist will leave you conscious and in a relaxed state throughout the duration of your procedure.

We’re happy to discuss these options with you to determine what will work best for your circumstances.

• Nitrous Oxide Gas is a sedative that is mild in nature, which makes it a popular choice. It is inhaled throughout the procedure to alleviate anxiety, enhance mood, and eliminate pain. Also known as “laughing gas,” its side effects are minimal, and you can even drive yourself home after the procedure!

• Oral Sedation is an option in which a sedative is prescribed and taken orally before your visit. At Grandon Villiage Dental, we use Halcion (Triazolam), which had amnesic properties, meaning you may not remember much of the procedure. Oral sedation is best when used for short procedures. If you decide on this option, you’ll need a ride to and from our office.

With these sedation options, there is absolutely no need to endure another anxiety-filled or uncomfortable visit to the dentist. We are so pleased to offer sedation dentistry to provide our patients with the most comfortable dental experience.
